Aruba Taxi Guide
Arriving at Aruba's Airport: What to Expect & How Taxis Work

Getting from Queen Beatrix Airport to your hotel is one of the easiest airport arrivals in the Caribbean. Here's everything you need to know โ from fixed taxi fares to insider tips for your first ride.
It's one of the easiest airport-to-hotel experiences in the Caribbean. But there are a few things worth knowing before you land, and they'll make the whole arrival feel like part of the vacation instead of something to get through.
Immigration and the ED Card
Before your trip, you'll need to fill out an Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) card online at edcardaruba.aw . It's free, takes a few minutes, and is linked to your passport record. Printing a copy is recommended as a backup in case an airline agent asks to see it. The airline verifies it at boarding, so this isn't optional.
You land. You walk. You join the immigration line โ and it moves faster than you'd expect. Have your passport ready, and you'll be through in no time.
Baggage Claim and Duty-Free
Your bags will be out shortly โ and the wait is actually worth using.

Customs and Getting to the Taxis
Once you grab your bags, you walk through customs. They have large baggage scanners โ most people walk right past, but occasionally they'll ask to run your bags through. It's quick.
Just past customs you'll find two things worth knowing about:
Hotel shuttles and private transfers. If you booked a pickup, your driver will be waiting here with a sign. Several resorts offer complimentary airport shuttles โ check your booking confirmation before you fly. Private transfer services are also available if you prefer to pre-arrange everything.
The Setar booth. This is Aruba's local phone carrier, and it's right there in the arrivals hall. If your phone plan charges international roaming rates, a local SIM card with data is a smart move โ and you can set it up before you even step outside. Check with your carrier before you fly to see what's included in your plan.
Finding a Taxi
If no one's holding a sign with your name on it, keep walking toward the exit. The taxi queue is right outside โ you can't miss it.
The first thing you'll notice is how relaxed everything feels. Nobody's rushing you, nobody's grabbing your bags uninvited. It's one of those small things that sets Aruba apart from the moment you arrive.
The line moves quickly. Most airport taxis are sedans โ comfortable for up to four passengers. If you're a larger group, the dispatcher can line up two cars. The whole setup is well organized, and the drivers handle arriving visitors and all kinds of luggage situations every single day.
Taxi Fares from the Airport
This is the part that surprises most first-time visitors โ in a good way.
Taxi fares in Aruba are fixed by the government . No meters, no negotiating, no surge pricing. The fare from the airport to your hotel is the same whether it's your first visit or your tenth. You know exactly what you're paying before you get in, and that kind of transparency is rare.
From the airport to the main hotel areas:
- Druif / Manchebo Beach (low-rise hotels): US$26
- Eagle Beach: US$28
- Palm Beach (high-rise hotels): US$31
Staying somewhere outside the main hotel zones โ an Airbnb, a villa, or a vacation rental? Your fare might be different. Use the fare finder before you land and you'll know the exact amount. No guesswork.
Luggage: Each passenger gets 1 suitcase + 1 carry-on item included. Extra pieces placed in the trunk cost US$2 each. Personal items you keep with you โ like a purse or laptop bag โ aren't charged.
Surcharges: There's a US$3 surcharge for rides late at night, on Sundays, and on public holidays.
Paying Your Driver
Taxis in Aruba are cash-based โ US dollars work everywhere, so no need to exchange currency before you arrive. Carry $1, $5, and $10 notes so you can pay the exact fare plus a tip if the driver earned it. More details on payments and receipts in our taxi rates guide .
No Uber or Lyft
There's no rideshare service in Aruba . For airport arrivals, taxis are the most convenient option โ fixed fares, short distances, and the queue is steps from the terminal.
The Drive to Your Hotel
This is where Aruba starts showing off.
Most hotel zones are just 15โ30 minutes from the airport. The island is small โ nothing is far, and the drive itself is part of the welcome.
Drivers usually take a route that bypasses downtown Oranjestad. Keep your eyes open along the way โ you'll spot local restaurants and roadside snack shops that are absolutely worth coming back to during your trip. And once you reach your hotel area and catch your first glimpse of that turquoise water, you'll feel it. That's the moment. That's why you came.
Don't be surprised if your driver strikes up a conversation along the way. Aruba's taxi drivers are known for being friendly and knowledgeable โ they'll tell you which restaurants are worth trying, which beaches to visit on which day, and where to catch the best sunset on the island. It's not a sales pitch. They genuinely love sharing their home with visitors, and that warmth is something you'll notice again and again during your stay.
Renting a Car at the Airport
If you'd rather have your own wheels, the rental car counters are right across from the arrivals hall. You'll find several major agencies and local companies to choose from.
Pre-booking online is almost always cheaper than walking up. Check DiscoverCars to compare rates and reserve before you fly.
Keep in mind: most visitors don't need a rental car for their entire stay. Taxis handle the beach-and-dinner days beautifully. A rental makes the most sense for a day or two of exploring โ driving through Arikok National Park, discovering the rugged north coast, or watching the sunset from the California Lighthouse. The taxi vs. rental article breaks down exactly when each option makes sense.
